A deliberate SpaceX rocket launch from Vandenberg Area Drive Base lit up the California skies Monday night, briefly turning the night sky into what gave the impression to be a scene from a piece of science fiction.

Bystanders and passersby craned their necks to look at the shuttle and take video of its flight. However the flying object was not unidentified; it was a Falcon 9 rocket carrying 22 Starlink spacecraft, which lifted off at 7:28 p.m.

The Starlink spacecrafts have been subsequently deployed to low Earth orbit, the place they may reportedly be used to supply web service to distant and difficult-to-access areas everywhere in the planet.
