The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System will launch its first all-electric Fast bus route on Sunday, with new buses touring from the Otay Mesa Port of Entry to Imperial Seaside.

The Fast 227 route will provide service each quarter-hour or higher a lot of the day. It can take 16 minutes to journey from the border to the Iris Avenue trolley station, and one other 24 minutes to get to Imperial Seaside.

“With the enlargement of pedestrian lanes on the Otay Mesa Port of Entry in early 2024, cross-border commuters have a brand new fast and handy choice for entry to coastal locations, regional employment and exercise facilities in South County, downtown and central San Diego,” the transit company stated.

The articulated buses from New Flyer provide snug rides, massive home windows, high-back seats and quick service. They’re quieter than gas-powered buses, and produce zero tailpipe emissions.

Rides on the Fast 227 route shall be free from Oct. 15 by Oct. 31.
