Andrew Hayes misplaced 4 votes from his lead over Democrat Kevin Juza Monday within the race for second place within the seventy fifth Meeting District behind fellow Republican Carl DeMaio.

Hayes, president of the Lakeside Union College District Board of Trustees, has a 556-vote lead, 22,799-22,243, 18.7%-18.2%, over the small enterprise proprietor, in keeping with figures launched Monday by the San Diego County Registrar of Voters.

DeMaio, a former San Diego Metropolis Council member, leads the race to succeed Assemblywoman Marie Waldron, R-Valley Middle, with 52,653 votes, 43.1%.

It was unclear what number of ballots remained to be counted.

The highest two finishers, no matter get together, will advance to the final election.

Hayes moved into second Saturday, taking a 560-vote lead, 22,172- 21,612, 18.7%-18.2%. Juza entered Saturday’s rely with a 789-vote lead over Hayes, 19,104-18,315, 18.59%-17.83%.

Hayes was endorsed by the San Diego County Republican Get together and Waldron, who’s barred from operating for reelection due to time period limits.
